Round of Life
Richard Outram
From: Man in Love. Erin, Ont. : Porcupine's Quill, 1985.
Let us the fruit of Love's pursuit
discover;
Of Jenny Wren, of speckled hen,
of plover.
Here is an egg. Without a leg
to stand on:
When laid to rest, it must the nest
abandon.
Death is the norm: this perfect form
before us
We contemplate, may to our fate
restore us.
Herein is held, without a weld,
or caulking,
A germ of flight, '... world of delight,'
& squawking:
Which is, when broached, & sometime poached,
devoured;
That thereby we may likewise be
empowered.
