Jennifer Footman

Jennifer Footman:

I was born in India in 1942. Both my parents were Indian nationals.

In 1950 my parents separated and my mother and I went to Scotland.

I studied at the Edinburgh School of Drama for three years from 1958 to 1961 and then worked for three years as an actress.

In 1961 I got married and then had three children in the following three years.

In 1964 I attended Edinburgh University and graduated as a dentist in 1969. I worked for ten years as a dentist and came to Canada in 1979.

When I came here I decided to write, and to this end attended writing courses at Ryerson, University of Toronto and Sheridan College.

I am a Canadian citizen.

I have considerable experience in leading writing workshops and teaching in a variety of schools through the Poets in Schools Programme.

I am a freelance editor, specializing in scientific work and poetry.

I have given many poetry workshops and talks for different libraries, eg the Mississauga, the Caledon etc.

I have toured and lectured in Scandinavia about Canadian Writing with Heather Spears.

I was a teacher for the Etobicoke Board of Education for continuing education in creative writing.

I am active in community groups: chair of Brampton Writers' Workshop; past member of Brampton Library Board; past court volunteer with John Howard Society.
