Laszlo Loves Erasure

John Pass
From: crawlspace (Madeira Park: Harbour Publishing, 2011)

Laszlo wants an elephant
and Mum does one, a few deft

strokes with the special pencil
on his magic tablet and bang

it's gone as he hits the slide knob over
and back and clears the slate for

circles, circles, wonderful
circles for one so young and bang

so vehement and decisive as once we
hit the chrome levers, the carriage returns

on those behemoth typewriters when the fit
was on us like reloading a gun and bang

Laszlo wants an elephant.
