Little Boy

Laura Lush
From:   Carapace. (Palimpsest Press, 2011).

Across the yard you fly, rustling the bees
yellow noise. Lord of the backyard
hellabouts commanding legions of ants---
snap and twig-breaks---horn of Keryneias
hind gripped between your hands.
With Herculean might, twists of foot,
gnash heel into earth. You are here.
I watch from the deck, a magazine fluttering
in my hands. Never mind these words.
You are here, Little Boy, and you love better than I.
