Amid simmering samovars
the sombre colours
of the designer scarf
you gave me
that were not
in my fashion palette
fit in so well.

Those Ukrainian flowers
purple asters
and marigolds
were reminiscent
of our garden walks.

You never made it
to Ukraine
but your echoing voice
was in the beehives
and windmills.
