Some day I will take the time to explore the philosophy—or the psychology—of literature and writing. In the meantime any rationale would have to operate on three levels: "the Master Gatherer" (so-called by Robin Skelton), John "Bartlett" Colombo (so dubbed by J. Alex Edmison), and "Canada's Mr. Mystery" (so described by Robert C. Girard of Arcturus Books)...plus a fourth, yet-to-be evolved sobriquet that reflects the poetry that I write. I established Colombo & Company, a personal publishing imprint, to issue highly individual QuasiBook Editions of present and past work. I did so in 1994; in half a dozen years I issued a catalogue that describes close to eighty titles, new and reprint titles, including a dozen or so books by like-minded peers and colleagues. I offer insights and anecdotes about these activities and about my published books (and even about some of my unpublished ones!) in the volume titled Self-Schrift (1999).
