Wendy Morton : Honours and Sponsorships



  • Wendy Morton has turned her poems into the currency that has provided her with:
    • luxurious hotel rooms from The Fairmont Hotels
    • vitamins from Prairie Naturals
    • a digital camera from Fujifilm
    • Green Beaver skin care products

  • She is DaimlerChrysler's Poet of the Road, and received a PT Cruiser from DaimlerChrylser.

  • She is WestJet's "Poet of the Skies"

  • She receives sponsorship from AbeBooks for "National Random Acts of Poetry Week"

  • She originated "National Random Acts of Poetry Week,"
    in 2004 when 27 poets across Canada read a poem to strangers and gave them a book. In 2005, there were 27 poets in Canada and 9 in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Northern Ireland committing a random act of poetry on strangers. "National Random Acts of Poetry Week," a project of the Victoria READ Society, ran 2004-2010, until funding disappeared.

  • Wendy Morton's poem "If I had a name like Rosie Fernanez" appears on the label of Southbrook Vinyards Cabernet Merlot as part of their Poetica series

  • In April, 2010, Wendy was awarded the inaugural Spirit Bear Award founded by Patrick Lane and Lorna Crozier, "to recognize the significance of a vital and enduring contribution to the poetry of the West Coast."

  • Also in April, 2010, she was awarded the Golden Beret Award by the Calgary Spoken Word Society, for "signifcant, lifelong contriubtion both to the Spoken Word genre, and to the growth and development of the poetic community."

  • In January 2011, she received the Honrary Citizen award from the City of Victoria in recognition of her service to, and enrichment of Victoria in arts and culture.
