From: "Preface" in Time Capsule: new and selected poems, Polestar 1996. pp.13-15

The collection of new poems that comprise the Time Capsule section of this book were gathered from a manuscript that Lowther was working on at the time of her death, and which she had entitled Time Capsule. Some of the poems were gathered from notebooks and papers by her daughter Beth. Pat Lowther's concerns remained constant: love and the physical body, children and motherhood, nature and human nature, an intense political commitment, and an acute awareness of violence and injustice. This collection represents a wide range of her best work. It was compiled through the commitment of Pat Lowther's children, and their desire to see their mother's poetry given a fresh presentation; and through the profoundly personal and professional contribution of Lorraine Vernon, a poet and journalist, and one of Pat Lowther's dearest friends.

Time Capsule is a gift to those who have not yet been introduced to Pat Lowther's pure and original voice; it is a celebration for those who are already familiar with the magic within. And it is a collection to honour the life and work of Pat Lowther: mother, friend, activist and poet.
