Four O'Clock

Malca Litovitz
From:   To Light, To Water. Toronto: Lugus Publications, 1998.
"Four O'Clock" in Canadian Jewish News, 1998

Four o'clock, and the day falls over the ocean.
Leaves whisper to themselves in the trees
where winds blow
on white space at the foot of the mountain.

I want to remain true to freefall
with its gunshot intelligence, its fearful fishing
in anticipatory streams.

God reveals secrets in white waves,
black question marks,
the open pages of falling books.
